where to go in India

Wild in India with World Spree’s New Tour

World Spree’s 11-night tour of India covers the highlights of northern India—the famed Golden Triangle—which includes the capital Delhi, Agra and the Taj Mahal,  and the picturesque pink city of Jaipur, plus a Bengal tiger safari in Ranthambhore National Park.

But it also includes an extra night between Agra and Ranthambhore, spent in a tiny Rajasthani farming village called Abhaneri. Tour participants arrive to a traditional village welcome and enjoy an overnight stay in a village tent camp that’s like a small resort.  The tents are furnished with comfortable beds and reading lamps and have private bathrooms with toilet, basin and hand-held shower, as well as a patio with recliners. Three meals based on Rajasthani cuisine are served buffet-style in the large dining tent.

Tour participants will have a chance to interact with the village folk, visit the school and a home and  gain insight into the rural heartbeat of India. Some  will simply relax in the sun, while others can  play cricket with the camp staff or watch a traditional cooking demonstration.  And, after dinner, all will enjoy a folk dance performance by a bonfire.  Before leaving Abhaneri there’s a visit to the amazing well of Chand Baori, a 10th-century stepwell with 13 floors and 3,500 steps that’s 98 feet deep—a unique Indian invention for harvesting rainwater.

Rates: $1,799 includes transpacific air fare (from San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York), all accommodations, daily buffet breakfasts, 11 other meals, all land transportation, baggage handling and caring English-speaking guides. Prices are per person, double occupancy and are subject to availability. There is no additional charge for credit cards.

Three post-trip extensions are on offer: a two-night stopover in Beijing ($200), a three-night trip to Amritsar ($599), and a five-night tour to Nepal ($849).
